Adopt Don't Shop!

Over 2000 deserving dogs and cats were placed in their forever homes in 2018. APL also has an active group of foster families who provide interim homes until space is available at our shelter. An application must be approved to finalize an adoption; complete the adoption application to start the adoption process.

APL Animals

All of our animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped before being available for adoption. Dogs are heartworm tested; given vaccinations for rabies (if old enough), bordetella, canine distemper/parvo; and kept on heartworm and flea preventative. Cats are tested for FIV and feline leukemia; given vaccinations for rabies (if old enough) and feline distemper; and kept on flea preventative and regular dewormer. Adoption fees for our animals vary. In general adoption fees for kittens are $50 ($65 if adopted in pairs). If you adopt one and kitten and adopt its sibling or cagemate the free for both kittens is $50. Adult cats are often free or have a small adoption fee depending on the current special adoption pricing. Our dog adoption fees are variable depending on the size, breed, and health of the dog.

Adopt an adult pet.

There are a lot of excellent reasons to adopt an adult dog or cat. These pets often find themselves homeless because an owner has passed away, gotten a divorce, or lost a job and cannot care for a pet any longer. Adult dogs are often housebroken, won't wake you in the middle of the night to play, and have outgrown the desire to shred your couch cushions or munch on your shoes. Adult cats are usually trained to use a litter box, are not destructive, and would rather curl up in your lap than climb your drapes. APL always has a great group of adults, both at our shelter and in foster homes. Please consider adopting one of them.
